Welcome to
Gaelscoil Chnoc Liamhna

Welcome from Cárthaigh Ó Cuill Principal
We will be delighted to welcome your child to Gaelscoil Chnoc Liamhna and to play a part in developing their self-confidence and self-esteem. By promoting a positive attitude towards learning, we hope to enable them to become independent learners and achieve a high standard in both Irish and English.
What we stand for
Our Mission, Ethos and Values
Mission
Gaelscoil Chnoc Liamhna aims to provide all children in the school with a high quality education through the medium of Irish, taking individual needs and differences into account. We believe it is the right of every child to achieve his or her potential in a stimulating, happy, friendly environment. The Catholic religion is taught and its principles used as a moral guide in the school. Due regard is given to the intellectual, physical, social, emotional and spiritual development of the child and we wish to instill a love and respect for the Irish language and culture in our pupils.
Ethos & Values
We believe in promoting an open, friendly atmosphere with an emphasis on co-operation, professionalism and team work. We recognise that parents are their children’s primary educators. We encourage positive parent/teacher relationships and promote communication based on respect and trust. We welcome the support of parents and encourage involvement in the development of the school through the Parents’ Association (Cairde na Scoile) and the Board of Management.

Why Choose our Gaelscoil
Immersion education leads to greater cognitive flexibility and divergent thinking; students become more creative thinkers, with the ability to provide a range of valid solutions to a problem. All Irish and international research shows that the sooner a child becomes bilingual, the greater the cognitive benefits.
Not to worry if you do not have Irish yourself, over 90% of parents who send their children to Gaelscoil’s have little or no Gaeilge, so this is perfectly normal!
Immersion Benefits
Children acquire high-level fluency in both Irish and English naturally, without negatively impacting their English language ability, which is often improved through immersion
Cognitive & Academic Advantage
Studies show immersion education increases attentional control, memory skills, and divergent thinking. Gaelscoil students often perform above average in national standardized tests in English and Maths
Cultural Identity
Students gain a deeper appreciation of Irish culture, which is linked to increased self-esteem and a stronger sense of identity.
Long-term Skills
Being bilingual enhances interpersonal skills and offers better future employment opportunities, along with bonus marks in the Leaving Certificate.
Easy Transition
Parents do not need to be fluent in Irish; many learn alongside their children, and schools provide support. Children easily adapt to the immersion method.
Inclusive
Gaelscoils are state-funded and follow the standard curriculum, welcoming children from all linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
